In an unusual case, officials and citizens in 4 Texas counties are keeping their eyes open for a serial rapist. The offender’s identity is unknown but his DNA has linked four cases over the past several months.
Elderly victims in Bells, Falls, Lavaca, and Leon counties have been linked through DNA though there are a total of 8 cases that show marked similarities including elderly women that lived alone. For instance, 5 of 8 have occurred on Highway 53 and 7, according to KXXV News Channel 25.
Stranger rapes are far less common than date rapes. Serial rapists are even less common than one time offenders. So this case is quite unusual, and frightening.
According to KXXV law enforcement is working with community members to ensure safety and perhaps to find some help in breaking the case. They have cautioned citizens, particularly elderly women, to ensure their windows are locked prior to going to sleep and to leave lights on throughout the night.
Sex offenses, like rape, are particularly frightening to women in the community. When someone is on the loose that is suspected of 8 rapes, you can expect to see many people concerned and fearing for their own safety.
Although this case is unusual and dramatic, many sex offense accusations don’t fit the sex crime stereotypes we see in the media and on courtroom dramas.
